GhostConvert was founded on a simple, unwavering belief: your files are yours, and they should never leave your control. In an age where convenience often forces users to sacrifice privacy, we set out to prove that powerful file conversion can be fast, free, and entirely local.

Our Story

The idea for GhostConvert was born out of frustration. The founder, a privacy-conscious developer, needed to convert a batch of family photos from HEIC to JPEG. Every "free online converter" demanded an upload — meaning those personal images would pass through third‑party servers, possibly stored, analyzed, or even misused. There had to be a better way.

Leveraging modern browser capabilities (WebAssembly, the FileReader API, Canvas, and emerging WebCodecs), GhostConvert was built to run entirely inside the user's browser. No server uploads. No temporary cloud storage. No hidden data collection. The code you run is the code we wrote — and you can inspect it yourself.

Our Technology & Transparency

GhostConvert is powered by a carefully curated stack of open‑source libraries, all loaded securely from trusted CDNs. Every conversion task — whether it's decoding a PDF, rendering an SVG, or transcoding audio — executes within a sandboxed browser environment using client‑side resources only. We use Cloudflare Workers solely to deliver the static site and handle routing; at no point are your files transmitted to a remote server.

Transparency is core to our mission. The entire front‑end codebase is visible and unminified; you can use your browser's developer tools to verify that no data is being sent out. We also publish regular updates and security disclosures through our website.

Our Commitment to Privacy

We do not track, log, or profile our users. The only analytics we employ are aggregated, anonymized visitor counts through a self‑hosted solution that respects “Do Not Track” signals. Any advertisements on the site are contextual and do not rely on personal data or behavioral profiling. We firmly believe that a free tool does not have to come at the expense of your privacy.
